So. Calif sailors Catalina Help

I usually go to Catalina in June/July. This year Im considering the second/third week in Sept. But I was told because of the fishing (marlin?) tournaments, that Avalon is really busy, usually full. I avoid Avalon on Friday/Saturday nites most of the time anyway.

Can anyone shed some light on this time of year in Avalon??

Bob, Are You Interested in Avalon Only?

Because, at other coves, you'll not have a problem. And, it's the best time to go anyway. As for Avalon, you can always go to Whites Cove for a night and then show up at 0930 in Avalon after they run their list and you can probably get a mooring with no problem. Rick D.

Catalina

There are fishing tournaments in late August and September 7-9, I believe. Do a little google search on Catalina fishing activities. After Labor Day you should be able to get in Avalon Sun through Thurs without problem usually. As Rick said though, I would go somewhere else if you are going to be there on the marlin weekend. I like the Isthmus and Emerald, but they are farther from San Diego. Just look for a lighter weekend in Avalon and show up Thurs AM.

If you go the second week you will be way ahead of the

crowd. Since it is first come first serve there should be no problem.

After Labor Day

Last year we went to Avalon on Labor Day. The harbor was half empty, and there was no problem getting in. We stayed for a couple of nights and the harbor never filled. We then went over to Isthmus, and it was empty as well.
