I am looking for advice. Due to our terrfic amount of snow, the sliding hatch cover for the comapnion broke around the hasp mounting and know is bent at a deep V shape. Is there a place to order a new one? or is it better to have it fixed. I am pretty handy at fixing, how hard is it to learn glassing and gelcoating the repair.

glass class

would expect it would be easier to repair than find a part for a boat no longer built. having a glass boat means learning glass repair. you can go to the west system site for most all the info needed, and the info is good for all glass work, not just if you use west materials. www.westsystem.com

Fiberglass is great

fun. Boatfix.com has west systems epoxy for the lowest price that I have been able to find. The addiativs are pretty inexpensive, too. John r. sweet Co has a bunch of additional tools, etc. and a good writeup of the different types/weights of glass. Ebay has a bunch of cloth that is inexpensive. I would imagine that if the snow broke the hatch cover, you probably have a rotten core. If you are doing any type of glass work, I would recommend you buy the epoxy by the gallon, especially for someone who is a tinkerer. One tip, have lots of rags, lots of acetone, rubber gloves, old clothes (long sleeve shirt), dust mask, eye wear, and lots of light (don't do it at night). Now, if I could only find an inexpensive source for closed cell foam for some cushions.

One more Question

How do you remove the hatch from the companionway to work on it. Do you have to remove a teak slider or is there a trick to pull it out. I have time to plan this out as it is snowing today 5/15 here in Lake Tahoe. Thanks for all the info so far
