anybody recommend types of snorkel tube, mask and fins for minor underwater worksuch as cganging zinc anodes, cutting crab pots from keel etc.

snorkel?

If you are thinking of using a snorkle, either you have very long arms, or you might just forgo that and hold your breath...cause that's what you will be doing anyway. A snorkle will just get your face in the water.Are you maybe thinking of those units that pump air from the surface for underwater diving?I don't think it is a very good idea to free dive your repairs. First, you probably need a little bit of weight added to keep you from floating up while working, a lot of weight if you are using a heavier wet suit, so you need to know how to balance it and release it. Second, and more important, if you get hung up on something while holding your breath, you will not have much time to work your way out of it.Dan Jonas (S/V Feije II)

We have set on board.

We have a set (fins, mask and snorkel) on board for checking over the bottom and when the kids go swimming. The snorkel is nice to have but the mask is the big help. Can't see clearly without one.I can see cutting lobster pots away, but changing zincs? You would really need to hold your breath. No a long tube up to the surface won't work as a snorkle, your lungs can't berather surface preasure air under more than a few feet of water, too much water preasure.RREgge

You'll need SCUBA or a Hooka

To do any kind of routine maintenance below the water-line while the boat is floating requires a system that will provide air under pressure. If you haven't learned to SCUBA, now's a good time. Besides saving you money by letting you do in-the-water-repairs, it will open up another world that can only be seen at top-notch aquariums.Happy sails to you. ~ _/) ~

Just the thing

There is a company in the states that makes a hooker system with a small compressor driven by a battery. The compressor sits in a floating container so it drags around behind and of course above you. It means you can dive to about four metres I think.. You can also dive in tandom down to about 3 metres. I think it may be called a portadive?????????Good luck
