Snap Ring Impeller Size..Universal 5411/M-15

Currently overseas...will be back on the boat in 3 months...does anyone know the size of the snap ring for the Universal 5411 impeller shaft (2 cyclinder).

I would like to replace the impeller and wish to order the part(s) prior to returning back to the States.

Go to www.marinedieseldirect.com and find the part #, that would be a lot easier. You also need to know what pump you have.

Snap ring prices

I just ordered two new impeller kits, which didn't include the snap ring, and two rings. I ordered them from Depco Pump in Florida. If you really need to speak with someone who knows pumps, I highly recommend them.

Anyway, I'm shocked at what these snap rings cost. I paid $11.80 each. Is a stainless snap ring really so valuable?

According to Oberdorfer, the pump maker, the pump model number for the M15 is 202M-07. The snap ring part number is 5373. This is the same as mine, and apparently same for all 202M series pumps. When I get my new ones on Friday I will measure it and post here.

Your pump is likely the same Oberforfer type as my 5411 (1980). Another source for these pumps & parts is Moyer Marine, as the old A4 Atomics use the same pump that he sells. Their prices were the best that I've found. Ps. I also had to replace the original lube cup that's built into this pump. It will corrode away after all this time. Mine discintegrated when I tried to unscrew it to fill it with lube grease. Replace yours if you're doing work to the pump. That grease cup will begin to leak cooling water if it fails.

I have a M18 so it may be apples and orangatangs but I've been told that the snap ring on the Oberdorfer pump impeller is just for assembly and that you can safely go without it when you replace the impeller.

Than being said, I bought a set of snap ring pliers the first time I changed the impeller and always use the snap ring so I have not idea if that is actually true or not. The snap ring pliers make quick work of the snap ring at any rate and... well... better safe than sorry I guess!

I received mine and measured it. It's 1/32" thick, 5/8" outside diameter, and 15/32" inside diameter.

It is best to have several..That said, the cost of the snap rings runs between $12.00 and $18.00 per. I saw on Amazon 10 for about $8.00. Hence the reason for the request...I think of things to do once I get back from overseas.
