OK, next major project on my 1992 '42 Passage is to replace the Beckson ports and the larger acrylic windows found in the salon area. the windoes are crazed and the Beckson clamps are broken so they leak. So, has anyone replaced the wiindows with clear instead of the original smoked acrylic? and the Beckson only comes in white anymore although I see Gray Ports do come in black frames. Any advice on a combination of smoked or clear and the type of materials is welcomed. And in reading I have determined the best material to use for sealing is Dow 795. So here we go. ONce the weather in San Diego breaks.

Mine Were Replaced...

...locally by Marco Drovandi. That is who Steve referenced. I did have smoked put back in and he put a slightly heavier sheet stock in which helped the gaskets seal better with a bit more compression. He uses high quality US sheet stock, so the quality is a given. He also was on time and on bid and the boat was as clean as we left it. I think if you are planning to do all or a majority, you should give serious consideration to Marco. You may as well enjoy the benefits of nice windows instead of having the next buyer chisel you down for the bad ones or replace them before selling.

The e-mail I have for Marco is different: marcally@sbcglobal.net but that may not be current; it was a few years ago. The hardware should be available from the store on this site. Good luck!

Steve, do you think Marco would travel down to San Diego to do the work? I am not that familiar with the area to have any idea how long a drive that would be for him. Sandy

Sorry! I meant to address my question to Rick. Old age is hell.

I'm pretty sure he would go to SD, but just e-mail him at the address Steve gave to be sure. He's done a bunch of Hunters (among others) so he's familiar with the boat.

From CDM to SD would take him 60-90 min depending on where you both are. I am excited to read these posts because we also have crazed ports and just last night we discussed getting them all replaced and in great shape..... and for sure I would choose the smoke tint, for everything from light protection, privacy and just keeping things cool. we were in San Diego but now in Dana Point so this will work perfectly for us! Thanks for the suggestion!

He also did a job in the SF Bay area so I don't think a triip to SD would be a big deal.

My buddy at the harbor sent him an entire hatch that he fixed.

I'm almost certain black frames are still available from Beckson. We offer both the Gray and Beckson ports here, parts and whole ports:

Clear lenses sure do let a lot more light in!

Yes to 795, that is the stuff:

Thanks Dave, yea I checked the links you gave me and the Gray ports are available in black or white but when you look at the Beckson listings in the Hunter site the blacks are all "out of stock" and the whites are available. That is in the 4X14 and even the 5X12's . No worries, I will use Gray and things will be fine.
