I bought a 1996 Hunter Passage 42 and I can't get rid of a smelly head problem. I can't find any leaks and the bilge is clean. It exists only in the main salon around the overflow line even though there's no sign of leakage. Any ideas on how to correct this nuisance?

First, read two articles...

in the Head Mistress form Reference Library (on the form homepage): "Head Related Odors--Causes and Cures" and "Boat Odor Isn't All In Your Head." They will tell you where to look, how to determine whether any of 'em are the culprit, and how to cure it if it is. If that doesn't work, I'll be glad to help you narrow the search.

Check your deck plate connection

With a bright light, open the deck pump out and look inside to make sure the hose has not separated from the deck plate fixture, like it did on our 1997 P42. It has 2 hose clamps on it, but they had not been tightened properly at the factory. Look very carefully because it is tricky to see in there. If the hose has separated, email me and I will tell you how to put it back on. It was not easy but it can be done. BBC30@aol.com.
