While I have my 3hp outboard mounted on the arch of my 326 I was curious where others store gasoline on board or if they do. I noticed the propane locker is vented but could a small 1 gallon gas jug be placed next to the propane tank? Hope you all are having a great summer. Reminder Sept 14th is SAILFORAMERICA (see www.sailforamerica.com or email me I am on the organizing committee) Thank you, Ed H326 NY HARBOR

I'm glad you asked!

I had the same problem on my H380 and finally did the following. I had a canvas maker (you could probably do it yourself ) make a case with a zipper top and a mesh bottom for the one quart gas can. I had him attach to heavy straps with twist hooks on them so that I can strap the gas can in the case to my stern pulpit. It also rests on the bar underneath it. Like you, I didn't want a gas can in the boat and it wouldn't fit in the propane locker. And I didn't want to have it tied to the stern steps and get in the way. This has been working well for me. I'll try to take a photo of it on my stern and post it in the next couple of days. Les

Propane Locker

Hi, Ed. We use the propane locker. Our propane locker is sized for two of the 5-pound propane tanks. In the locker we actually have; one 5-pound propane tank, one 1-pound disposable propane bottle, and a 3/4 gal plastic gasoline can. We use the 1-pound disposable propane tank to get by for a while if the main tank runs out. All of this fits rather neatly into the locker and has worked very well for us. Just make certain that you don't place anything so that it blocks the vent hole in the bottom of the locker. Good luck! Carl and Jule s/v 'Syzygy'

EXCELLENT POSTS -THANK YOU!

Fantastic info. I currently only have 1 propane tank so it will go in there for the moment. The canvas bag idea is excellent. In fact I think that is a great idea to store a one of those small gas generators. It can hang under the sternrail seat and taken out for use. That way the gas tank can remain filled. Wonderful. This site is great! Thanks again. Ed

Alternative

I store my 1-gallon deisel tank in the lazerette where the cabin door boards and sail cover go. That way it gets ventilation every time I open the lazerette, and I get a visual inspection every time as well for leakage.

Who about this

I read on some site and I do not remember which one. It may have been here. The idea was to put in to the anchor locker. It has a drain and air can get out of it. What I have been thinking of is to build a platform under one of the aft seats and tie down there. Have not done this yet, but if I do not hear of a better idea then I will give it a go.
