I was running at the dock the other day, and I noticed that going into reverse was slow, sometimes 10 seconds or more. Is this a symptom of failure of the transmission? I do not want it to fail at the worst possible time, should I just go ahead and replace the tranny? 1986 Cat 36, hurth tranny ,M25.

if its an inboard chect adjustment on shift mech.

it may be possible that the cable mech is out of adj. If its a clutch problem and slipping you would probably notice that it takes more rpm to move at a given speed than orig. i doubt that its slipping. its not as though your shifting gears all the time and slipping the clutch like we used to do in the good ole days with our stick trannys. mine was doing the sometimes not going into reverse last summer and it was adj of the arm on the side of trans. bolt had come loose and let it get out of adj. readj. and its been fine ever since.
