Well, shipmates, 8/27 is the end of the SAIL TRIM FORUM gig. I'll be slipping the mooring and sailing over the horizon. Another person will be conducting a forum on some other subject. I have no idea what that subject will be but I'm sure Rick has an interesting one for you With that in mind - we have to pick up the pace. In other words, if you are a beginner to intermediate and have any questions about sail trim, you need to present them NOW because the name on the transom of my boat is getting smaller and smaller as I sail away!! If I were a beginer to intermediate I know what I would asking but I can't read your mind. I can't remember how long I've conducted the sail trim Forum for Sailboatowners.com but I'm guessing 3 years maybe. I've had a lot of fun with it and meet some great people. I've never met a sailor, or a power boater for that matter, that I didn't like. If you enjoyed the sail trim forum and perfected your sail trim technique to some degree than the time I spent was all worthwhile. My goal has always been "I don't want beginners to go through what I had to go through in order to learn to sail a sailboat". Talking to you over the years about sail trim has been a labor of love. If you would like to see the Sail Trim Forum come back sometime in the future, because you can't get this type of info on any other network (I know you can't because if there was a network I'd be going there)then send a note to Phil. After 8/27, if you have any sail trim questions you can Email me at - yankee3223@juno.com - and I'll be glad to answer your questions. The next best thing to that is you can still buy my SAIL TRIM CHART and SAIL TRIM USERS GUIDE through the ships store on this site. See ya on the water and I hope my attention is not drawn to your sailboat because of crappy looking sail trim!!!!!!

Trevor: Thank you for asking. By the way, your wife Karisa and her buddy Sara are my two most favorite people to work with over at Sailboatowners.com. Actually, Phil and Bly are my favorites to. Bly is my all time favorite because she took on my book and chart when now one else would even talk to me. All the others wanted to know my track record of which I had none because I had just developed the product. Bly and I have since sold thousands of them together. Anyway, I sold my Catalina 30 a couple of months ago and I'm now looking for a C34 or C36. My wife said those magic words every husband waits to hear "maybe we should get a bigger boat with an aft sleeping area". The next day my C30 was on the market!! When I bought the C30 I had a C25 and a MacGregor 22 and I ain't going through that ordeal again. I'm looking for venues for my sail trim seminar in So Ca and I occasionally race in local events. I prefer to race with the middle to back of the pack racers. They are a great group to deal with, especially the ones with an open mind that will listen to suggestions as to how to gain positions. I've been with a couple of skippers and I wondered why they even asked me to crew with them as they did not accept any suggestions. I could not wait to get back to the dock, which took more time than necessary since we came in last!! Since we retired a couple of years ago we have been traveling extensively in the western states by way of a motor home. We started out with a 26' but after one long trip, my wife said those "magic words" and now I have a 33'!! I've been around sailboats since I was 5 years old. I got away from it for a while but I always return to it. The high point of my sailing season is the Catalina 30 National Regatta, which will be held this Oct in San Francisco. I race with a crew of guys from all over the US. We pick up a loaner C30 and give the locals a GO. The best and worse we have ever done is 2nd and in Santa Cruz we went against 19 other C30. I'm hoping for a 1st one of these times before I'm to old to crank a winch. Actually, I don't crank winches - it's too much work. My speciality is the mainsail. Hopefully, the sail trim forum will be resurected one of these days. I like monitoring the varous forums but I quickly tire of them because they are like maintainence forums - I'd rather sail the boat than work on it!!

Sorry to see you go, Don. Your "column"

on sail trim is invaluable. We have your charts and book and nowhere have I seen sail trim explained so clearly. Thanks so much! Bon Voyage and we'll leave the light on for ya!
