I own a 1975 Cat.30 and am starting to have the engine rev up while under way in forward gear due to slippage. Is this likely needing a gear adjustment or do parts wear and require pulling the engine/gearbox out of the boat to replace. I would obviously prefer to first do some adjustment to try to correct the slippage. Any experience with this problem would be appreciated.

not to worry- you just need to adjust the clutch-separate adjustments for forward and reverse-it takes about 1/2 hr. the first time. sorry, but I haven`t done it in about a year, so can`t describe in detail. If you don`t have an atomic owners manual, try one of the atomic web sites. Roger Hayden Bay Mystique, C30 #1510

Hi! I have a 79 Cat30 with an Atomic 4. My guess is that you have one of two possible problems - misadjustment of forward gear, or worn clutch plates. I would try readjusting the forward gear first. Instructions are in your engine manual. I've never tried to fix a clutch, so can't help you there. Good luck.
