If someone wanted to base his boat near Newport, RI for the summer, whether in a slip or at a mooring, one, could they do it without being on a giant waiting list, and two, what is the going rate for slips and moorings in that area? I have the same question about Tampa Bay in the winter.

Slip fees

Ken- Slip fees can run from $70-$125 per foot for the May-Nov season, depending on the MA (marina's amenities). If you are thinking about this season, you should get on the phone right away, as many marinas have a waiting list. There are private clubs and other setups that are less money, but again, I think they have a wait list, too. As far as Florida- all I know about that is that they sometimes charge by the month, not the foot, 'cause the boats are always in the water... must be nice.

Moorings

Forget Newport itself. Very long waiting lists. Slips are harder to find, what size boat? 30' is easier to find than 45' Moorings run around $1000 per season. Check Dutch Harbor. Brewers in Wickford is full. RREgge

Bristol Marine may have some

Bristol Marine up in Bristol, RI. Last year they had #800 moorings for around $600. It's about a 2 1/2 hour sail north from Newport up Narragansett to Bristol. Les Murray s/v Ceilidh 86 C-36 #560

Don't give up on Newport

Try Oldport Marine for a mooring in Newport ... and there is another mooring service run by Neil Gray.

Jamestown

Ken, Try across the bay in Jamestown. The east side of Jamestown faces Newport. I'm up in East Greenwich about 2 hours by sail up the bay. The closer you get to open ocean the higher the price and longer the waiting list. Hey, good luck... Regards, Chris

What about Tampa Bay?

Great responses regarding Naragansett Bay, but does anyone know the going rates in Tampa Bay?
