A question for folks who regularly use their main saloon table as a berth...

Our table slides up and down VERY poorly.

The counterweight has rusted itself in place inside the pole, so it is disconnected. I've tried loosening it up to no avail, so it is probably out of play.

In moving the table down I loosen the clamp and am able to slowly drop it down although it binds and "hops" as it descends. Trying to get it back up into eating position is very, very difficult. I think part of the issue is that the PO replaced the wood with a corian, so it is quite heavy. The offset weight really seems to bind the clamp. I basically have to lie underneath and "bench press" it up.

Two questions:

1. Does anyone have recommendations as to a different way to approach lifting these tables?

2. Has anyone found a way to "grease" the clamp that doesn't also result in folks getting some said grease all over their clothes if/when they touch the pole?

Thanks!
Doug
