Sliding Hatch Replacement

Anybody out there replaced the slide hatch cover on their boat? I need to replace one, was thinking of using wood but need some help and/or advice on keeping the cabin water proof (or as waterproof as I can get it.) Any photos or diagrams/designs out there?

Hatch cover replacement

I made a replacement using a wood frame and a 1/4" clear acrylic panel set in 3M 5200, no problems so far.
