The slides/slugs on my main are getting sticky. Is there a good lube for this? Was thinking that Silicone will work ok? What do you guys think???

Slides/Slugs Lube

I got this little track cleaning car from West Marine complete with a tube of lub. I run the car up the mast a few times to clean the track then up and down once with a fresh lubed cloth. works fine.

Greg?

Do you happen to have a West part number for that track cleaning slide? I can't find it in the catalog, the local West people have no idea what I'm talking about, and I need one - Thanks, MC

Track Cleaner P/N =?

I'm @work. Our West Marine opens at 9:00 local. I call and get the P/N. They're used to my ranting. Its tward the back of the catalog, in with sail repair kits and tward the bottom.

sailkote

sailkote, a dry lubricant, will cost about three times as much as silicon/teflon libricants but will last ten times as long. it's what you'll find being used on all the big-ticket racing boats. I use it for everything from sail tracks to the wheel on my knot log.

lubrication

Silicon is good. Petroleum is bad, it will gum up and stain your sails. The aforementioned sail lube devices are good because they clean the track as well as lube it. The really cheap sailors use soap, but I say why use something from home when you can go spend money at West Marine?

Wrong Part Numbers

Greg, 160950 does not appear to b a valid part number according to a search on the West site. Can you re-check it? Thanks, MC

Thanks, Greg

Anybody know if this thing will fit into the slot without removing the main? MC

Michael Cohn: Yes... and maybe...

Michael, I just got back from Berkeley/San Francisco so I've been goofing off for the last 4 days. Wife and kids are still there so now the real goofing off begins. I remove the slugs but with a 23 that's no big deal. The product is primarily made of pure aluminum and there fore soft. You may be able to reform it to inter the track above the headboard. Greg
