Sleeps how many? HOW.....

I have a 1986 Hunter 31. I am told that the setee table drops to make a double berth. Has anyone ever seen this happen? The table does not seem to line up with the seats when dropped. (1inch taller than seats). If you know where I can find a picture of the berth setup I would appreciate knowing where it is. And is this a 5 or 7 person boat? Thanks..Michael

Michael:I assume that you have the original interior. We have done this several times I think that you use the seat back in the forward and aft positions and use the seat bottoms in the middle. The seat back on the original was tappered from the top to the bottom. This would probably make up the difference.I have not paid much attention and have never slept there so don't know how comfortable/un-comfortable it may be.To be honest with you we don't want that many people aboard overnite. It is a two person boat with accomodations for 5. Even if you have a place for them to sleep where do you store all their bags etc.

My two cents worth

Steve is right on both counts: the difference in cushion thickness makes up the difference, and there's no room for five people's "stuff" on any 31 footer. For what it's worth, regardless of what the Hunter literature says, a very wise yacht broker told me several years ago that boats in the 30-35 ft. range should be comfortable "sailing six, dining four, and sleeping two." Having slept on a variety of boats this size, I tend to agree with him.

I have spoken to people who have modified the the table so that it can be lowered. you have to then fit a board for the space left and custom fit a cushion. toomuch work if you ask me.i do own the same h31 with the round setee -- a nice set up, but we prefer the v berth...

Sleeps 4

We have always been real comfortable sleeping four on long trips. It does get a little crowded with luggage so everyone should pack light. I have had an occasion where you can sleep five, but I have the round settee and it does not go down. My salon couch has a fold up leaf that makes it comfortable for a small person but 5 is a little to crowded.
