I have (had) a slap silencer for my 326 because the concenious was it would be required in some instances at a dock with waves hitting the stern. Never used it, but have experienced the noise and it is loud!!! I have just purchased a 426 and am not sure if a slap silencer would be required on this size boat or not. Comments from those with boats in this size range with the reverse transom would be appreciated. Ed

Our take on it

We call it boat music on our 380 and don't use a bra. Only once in three years did we get a strong rebound off of a seawall from an incoming sea and get really pounded during the night. Still slept OK, though.

One person's "boat music" is another person's hell

My wife would take exception to John's "boat music" observation. We've used the slap silencer on our 380 for the past two years with great success. In fact, if we didn't have it, I'm not sure I could convince my wife to sleep on the boat...it works that well. It's one of the few products we've bought that works exactly as advertised. I suggest that you contact the manufacturer about getting the right size for your boat. I'm sure they'll be able to help you with your selection.

Amen!

Anyone who lets his halyards clang all night has no right to object to a stereo or genset "music" from any other boat. If halyard slap is music to your ears, take it where no one else has to listen to it.

If it bothers you a lot

you can glue the sound sheild stuff to the inside of the hull in the offending area. I found this out when I installed a generator on the very back of my H34. When I put the sound insulation against the hull it greatly reduced the noise from that side of the boat. It is VERY $$$ so you have to really hate the noise to go for this solution.
