After 3 night's of bad sleep, and before we put down our 200 plus dollars, can anyone who has bought a Slap Silencer, especially for a H340, really verify that they work? We would really appreciate a response to this, as we always loved the sound of the slap until we slept in the aft berth of the reverse transom, and we do dearly love our H340. We reviewed the archives, and they were universally positive, but we just need to hear it one more time...thanks alot! [sorry to sound grumpy - we are a wee bit sleep-deprived!!!] Jule and Carl s/v Syzygy

Quiet Time

We love our Slap Silencer. One of the best investments we have made for our H376. We put it on almost every night we are on the boat. Doug Merrill s/v Dreamcatcher

340 Owner pleased with Slap Silencer

You will be delighted you purchased the Slap Silencer. There are no negatives. Just a good nights sleep. No pounding of waves. That aft berth sounds like a diving bell, doesn't it? Buy it and sleep well. Wynn Ferrel Tranqility H340

Best 200 I ever spent

I have used mine on my H380 for the last three years. It's the best money I ever spent on my boat. We ALWAYS anchor out or moor out and sleeping in the aft berth in now a dream thanks to the slap silencer and the handcraft mattress we had custom made. Silence truly is golden! Buy it without hesitation, learn how to properly attach it (a little trickier than it seems)and enjoy a great nights rest. When we are in Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard every summer people always dinghy over to ask about our diaper. We can tell they own a modern sterned boat by the black circles around their eyes from lack of quality sleep! We always tell em where to find this miracle cure, right here on HOW! Thanks Phil! Leave 'em on when you're NOT there!!

If the slapping keeps you awake when you're aboard, it's doing the same thing to your dockmates--in fact to everyone on your dock and the next one--when you're not. More than once I've had to get up in the middle of the night and take some bungee cords to the sailboat dock across from me to silence slapping halyards. It may be music to your ears, but to others it sounds like someone standing on the dock banging on pots and pans.

A simple length of rope

to hold the halyard at bay would work. (put some tension on the halyrad at head of the sail and tie the halyard away from the mast to the shroud) Another option is take the shackle off the sail, and connect to to the toe rail, life line or something else and put enough tension on it to keep it quiet. Quiet is why I head for remote anchorages. The last thing I want to hear is a noisy halyard (or a generator or your taste in music.) (Can someone explain to me why people hang wind chimes in a marina? As if there isn't enough noise.) Debra

Hey guys the slap silencer is like a diaper that goes under the transom to keep the aft berth quieted from slapping waves against the bottom of the hull. It has nothing to do with halyards, masts and those noises, though they can be bothersom too, the slap silencer is so you can get a good night sleep with the new modern designed swim transomed boats. Enjoy Bob

Thanks for the Input!

Thanks for all of the input on the slap silencer! We bought one, and it really does work; a good night's sleep during a windy, choppy night that would have driven us crazy otherwise. Completely eliminated the small stuff and greatly muffled the bigger stuff. BTW the description (a "diaper' for the boat) was totally accurate.......but........oh, forget it! It works!
