Skylight Leak

Leaking skylights are an ongoing problem with my H35. Water seems to enter through the holes for the counter-sunk SS screws which hold down the skylight panels. I have two options. One is to find an effective way to seal the screw holes against water intrusion. The other is to replace the skylight panels without using any retaining screws and rely on the recommended Dow sealant/adhesive around the edge to hold the panels securely in place. Can anyone tell me how Hunter does it or provide any tips?

Delete Screws?

Thanks for your input Bob. My real question is "Can I leave out the retaining screws and thus, with new skylights, solve the leakage problem from these screw holes?"

Skylight Leak

Neil, the leak you are seeing is not coming from those screws. It is the sealant that holds the skylight. The screws are there merely to locate the skylight while the sealant sets up. You will also need some small spacers when installing the skylight again. These spacers will hold the skylight at the correct height off the fiberglass. I made them from small pieces of tile separators that I bought at a hardware store.

A really good trick to getting a very nice smooth finish on the sealant is to liberally soak your fingers with liquid hand soap and run your finger around the edge of the skylight for a factory looking finish.
