The Skipper

Hello everyone, I thought I might share a movie of me, the Skipper, sailing to Canada. I was half way across Lake Erie when my wife decided to shoot this footage. Take a look! I Promise you will not be disappointed! When you click on Related Link below, your default movie player should come up automatically. The movie will not play at once. It will take aprox. 2 - 5 minutes or so depending on your connection speed and your computer. So, please be patient. The movies I create are aprox 1 - 2 minutes long. If you don't feel like waiting that long, no big deal! Just open up another window and browse as you normally do. When the movie is ready, you will hear it start. Just make sure your sound is on! This message has been brought to you by: Skipper Movie Productions. Watch for the next Skipper release coming to a computer screen near you! P.S. This is the first time I have done this on this site. So, if it does not work on this message, I will reply and fix the problem. But I am pretty sure this will work.

How did you put the video on line?

I enjoyed your mini-flick. (Great Lakes sailing is Great!) It worked just as advertised, and I read other postings while it was downloading. Could you briefly describe steps taken to set it up for our viewing and software used for the upload? How large is the file? Thanks. _/)

Here is how I do it....

Hi Jon! Gosh, where do I begin! First, thank you! As you may have notice by now, I am pretty good on computers. I have been clicking away on these things now for a couple of years. I am a fast learner..hehehehe Maybe I can help you create your own movies but there is a lot to it! First, you need a digital or analog camera. As many think, it is not true that digital is the only camera that can be used. However, you must have certain software to create your movie. I happen to like Ulead Video. In order to create your own movies, you really need to just jump in there and do them. Then you will learn all the little tricks and such. For instance, when I created my first movie, it took me over 4 days to create!!!! Now, I can make a 60 sec video in about an hour. I know, it sounds like a lot of work. But I put in a lot of cool side effects. If you wish to create a movie and have footage but don't want the bother of creating it your self, I could create it for you. If not, I can provide you with some more tips! It's actually pretty complicated. For instance, if you view my clip, it is a little fuzzy..In order to make it clear, you need to reduce the viewing window of Media player to a smaller size. The reason for this is because I reduced the number of pixels in the movie to keep its size smaller so that your download time is not as long. Also, I create the movies in Media player because everyone has media player on their computers. However, I have back ups of the movies in Quick Time and its full uncompressed version. So, if I view the originals, they are as clear as a bell but very large...about 10 megs. The ones you view are only 2 meg or so. The first step if you want to create your own movies, is to get a good video camera. Then you need to get the software and then you need to learn web design so you can store your videos on the web. However, there are ways around that too. There are places that offer free space. You can store your movies at these links. However, they often only provide you with 2 or 3 megs of free space. Easily, this would only hold one or two movies at best. So, getting your own web space is best. There are many places on the internet you can puchase space. I have purchased unlimited space. Jon, If you have a movie or footage of a movie you want to put up on the board, e mail me at Skipperofthebaybee3@hotmail.com and I will create a movie for you for free as I do for all my sailing friends!!!! let me know! If you are interested in more info, let me know!

Conditons during your sail.

You were under jib alone, what was the wind speed. How long was your trip and what was it like on the way beck. Where did you stay while in Canada, any trouble with customs on either side. Did you anchor, grab a mooring or find dock space. Were the facilities nice, or too exoensive. How was the food, any places to recommend? These points would make your vidio alot more interesting around here. Russell S/V Allie Kat

Half a Decade Ago..

Hello Russel, If you would like to join our group on our next sail to Canada, you are welcome to join us. Skip wind speed...It was 5 years ago Russel...How the heck would I remember wind speed? I don't remember what I did last week let alone what the wind speed was on a particular day a half decade ago. If you can remember what you ate for breakfast July 23 1998, I will let you know what the wind speed was. Lay off Russel

Think I'll pass on your offer.

Mr. Skipper My comments were meant to be helpful and provide some insights into what people are interested in. If you took offense at my input then you missed the point. Russell S/V AllieKat

nothing more, nothing less

It's a sailing movie Russel. Take it for what it is. Most normal people don't expect a technical break down of a movie. Its simply a movie clip. This is the first message board I have ever been to in my life that people find fault with a movie post. Lighten up Russel. If you analyze everything about sailing, you have taken the fun out of the sport. Just sit back, grab some pop corn and a soda and enjoy the clip. And take it for what it is.....a movie clip...nothing more, nothing less. Skip Jeesh! It's like I landed on a planet full of serious people that have never known how to enjoy life or how to have fun.

What ever!

Without any details about what you did or learned its like being a kid and watching my Aunts slides of her trip to England. Technology is cool, however we seem to be missing the "so what" that makes it interesting. Hey Mr. Skipper, why don't you try the Cruising World site, there are some guys over there your'll really hit it off with. Broke my cardinal rule: Never get in a fight wiht a pig, you both end up in the mud, and the pig loves it. Thats enough of this for one night/life. Russell S/V Allie Kat Good Night to all-Monday is my Birthday and I will avoid the sight so that I may enjoy the day.
