Skeg caused rudder grooves.

I have a ODay 27 that every year I must repair the grooves worn into the rudder by both leading edges of the skeg.Has anyone else exp. this and if so was there a solution?Easing off the rudder is not a solution that is practical for me.I am thinking of grinding the skeg back for more clearance, though before I do, would like your input.
