Size of packing material for stuffing box

Just purchased this 1978 Catalina 30....and the learning curve starts. I have an Atomic 4 Gas engine. Want to get packing material for the prop shaft packing gland...as a spare....I believe the propeller shaft is 1"....any idea what size packing material I should use for a repacking project?

Check out the packing thread a few post down the forum.

I put 1/4" GTU in mine but 3/8" would surely work as well.

Thank you....do you find GTU product better than others?
