Size of lettering for name of boat on transom and bow

Hi
I've finally got round to getting my Vega painted.
Once its done, I plan to use stick-on vinyl lettering rather than
painting the name - I found that vinyl lettering worked well on my
previous boat.

The format will be:
Breakaway
L.D.Y.C

centred on transom and just the name (Breakaway) port and starboard at
the bow. (Or is it more usual to only have name on one side at bow)?

Can anyone advise as to a reasonable height (in cm or inches) to use for
the letters? (My boat is 27 miles away so easier to ask.)

Thanks

John

Hi
I guess you're not in the USA, because here you must have the boat registration numbers (unless your boat is documented) on port and starboad ( and you don't mention these numbers)

Hi John

I used 50mm on the Port and Starboard bow. I reckon something like 75mm for teh transom. Dont use any fancy font, it just doesnt look right!

Cheers

FYI, for US documented vessels the minimum letter height is 4 inches for both the name and hailing port...
Not sure about Irish regs though... don't you have a rule about the minimum quantity of Guinness required to be aboard? ;)

Thanks Bill,
no regs AFAIK for pleasure boats here in Ireland.

And I resemble that remark re Guinness... :)

(I hear that sales in Ireland have dropped to the extent that the Dublin
brewery is closing soon & Guinness will be shipped from London to
Dublin... True.)
