does anyone knows the greatest size a genoa can be on an aquarius 23., I seem's to have better luck with only the main sail up when trying to climb the closest to the wind ,. where if my small jib is up it seem's to force the boat to fall to the wind gaining speed is true but forcing me in water that I do not want to be in due to the unpredictable depth under... this is on the coast a big problem in the gulf of mexico in the clearwater area all away to the panhandle.. lots of sand bar and oyster banks and elevations sometime it is not convenient to stay in the channels if you just want to go for a short spin and do not wish of really go offshore given a time element...

Size ....

For a 150% Genoa Luff 22.43ft Foot 14.24ft Leech 20.80ft. Length Perp. (LP) 150* Deck angle 12.87* Area = 144.35 sqft The most proabale reason that your boat is falling off to wind with the jib up: loose backstay/ loose forestay, jub failrad too far forward + insufficient jib halyard tension. Do you have tell-tales on the sail? If not, suggest you get a copy or Don Guilettes "Sail Trim Users Guide" (here on sbo.com) http://shop.sailboatowners.com/detail.tpl?cart=1127493892131182&fno=400&group=316. (Im not affiliated with SBO nor Don Guilette .... his book/guide is GREAT for the novice, etc.) Hope this helps.

Late but another thought about trim

If your A23 has two sets of tracks....the inside track should be used for the jib and the outside (farthest aft) set fo the genoa. This will allow you to trim the jib to where you can point very nicely into the wind. Just a thought. Regards, David

using a jib/genoa

Hi, David and I are exploring our boat as well as sailing in general. We bought a 23' with a roller furling genoa I think. Isn't a sail defined by its size and shape? If we have a roller furling sail isn't it both genoa and jib depending on how much sail is out? If we use it as a jib do we move the lines from the inside to the outside (rope holders)before letting the sails out fully?
