Help! I am trying desperately to create a name template for our hurricane salvaged Catalina 30 that my husband has worked so hard on. I'd like to give him this template as a gift for his 40th birthday (tomorrow!) and stencil and paint the letters myself on our next trip to the gulf. My problem is that I am not sure of the size of the transom. Any ideas? The name of the boat is "Waylon" so it's not too long. The height is the most important part. I'm guessing about a foot? Thanks so much!!

R,

I don't know how you missed it, but a thread called:
AFFIXING BOAT NAME DECAL ON C30, next to your thread in this forum should give you enough info..........

If USCG documented at least 4" letters on transom or on each hull side with the hailing port. If state registered, size doesnt matter. As said there's a lengthly discussion on a recent thread.

Don't know if this helps at all, but I used this when I was laying out the name on my transom, and I seem to remember that this box was about 11" x 32". The hailing port letters are 4" high.

These days most people just use decals, which are easy and which you can get at many places, including BoatUS.com. I was the one who just asked about this a couple of weeks ago.

I bought 8" boat name letters and 4" home port letters; I haven't had a chance to put the decals on but it looks fairly simple.

I defied the gods and had the old name decals removed; there's no evidence at all of the old name; I'm not sure that would be the case with paint...

Even though the USCG says boat name and port need to be together, I'm putting name on each side, home port on the transom.
