I've just purchased a 1985 Hunter 23 and this is the first boat I've sailed that has a sink and burner. Can anyone offer me a little education on how they work? I see there's a water tank connected to the sink and the drain leads out the hull. I don't see any electrical connected to it. How does it work?

Also, I'm assuming the burner runs on propane or some sort of fuel, but can't seem to figure out where that goes or how it work either. The previous owner simply said he never used them. Any suggestions?

Congrats

I had a similar model and loved it. If the equipment is original, the sink faucet gets water going by pumping, lifting the handle on the faucet up and down. I changed mine to a foot operated pump, which was more convenient to use. The stove was a single burner alcohol fuel unit. To operate, open the lid, remove the black round vapor barrier on top of the silver canister, pour alcohol into the silver canister, close the lid, and light with a match/lighter. After use, and once the unit is cold, replace the vapor barrier.

As for the stove, pure denatured alcohol burns the best, but In my experience, drug-store grade (91%) rubbing alcohol burns nearly as hot, but lasts longer. There will be some soot on your pans though.

Be Careful. An Alcohol flame is invisable. We nearly set a C&C 30 curtains on fire once because we did not see how high the flame was. I also own an H23 - it is a very good boat.

Thanks, guys. I'm eager to get over to where I'm storing my boat to take a closer look.
