I have a 23.5 with the Hunter Trailer I am considering adding a second axle to my trailer. For about $600 I can get a kit from Champion Trailers in Louisiana to do it. Anyone else already done this and have any advice. Seems like a year ago when there was a lot of bashing of the Hunter Trailer under the 23.5, 240, 26, and 260 someone had mentioned it but of course I cannot find it.

Trailer improvements

Hi Rick It was probably me, I complained about my 23.5 trailer rather loudly over the years. I replaced all the running gear with Champion parts and it is much better now, but as of yet I haven't converted it to a tandem. The trailer is sitting up on blocks (hows that for a Virginia mountain stereotype?). If I can scrape together the time and money, I intend to convert it to tandem this fall. I found the engineer at Champion( forgot his name) to be extremely helpful and he will talk with you as much as necessary if you pay for the call. Reuse old axle?

Rick, I have been considering the same thing for my 23.5 trailer. What does the kit you mention from Champion give you? Two new axles and springs or just an additional axle and springs? Craig S/V Cool Change

Craig, Almost Everything

The kit comes with one axle,(an additional one was about $117), four springs with all hardware, fenders, hubs, and brackets that attach the springs and the fenders to the trailer frame all for $525.50. Sounds like the only other things you will need is grease and beer. With the large drop one the stock axle matching them up would be a pain. I am Currently deciding if is better to replace both or to by an additional axle from Quality Trailer Products. An axle like the one the trailer comes with is $111. With freight I’m guessing a $200 difference, but with two new much better quality axles. Maybe if we all get together we can get a discount and have an Axle Attaching party.
