I am completly disappointed in the reefing system on my 272le, to the point of thinking about taking it off completly, it binds up so badly that it sometimes takes 2 people to raise the main. anyone else have the same problem? suggestions? Jim

I have the same problem on my 272. Friction is the main problem. Been thinking of a two-line system. Lets here how others have solved this problem.

Two different things

1. Are you using blocks .... on the reef points on the sail? 2. Are you snugging up the reef lines when you drop the sail? I let them hang loose and have no problem raising the sail in a minute without the winch. Just tuck them in when you put the sail cover on. Other than that reefing itself isn't all that hard.

i do have blocks on the system and I do tighten lines for looks, i am more then a litle anal about my boat.LOL I am thinking about replacing the lines with a nylon braded rope thinking it might be slicker. The main sticking area is toward the rear of boom. I am also looking at 2 line system or going back to simply tieing in a reef. jim

reefing

I have no problems as long as I remember to have everything loose when raising the sail. Boomvang loose, mainsheet loose, blocks in place wherever the line makes a turn, plus the boat must be headed dead into the wind. I usually am able to determine how likely it is that I will be reefing and do the reefing as I motor out of the club or even in the slip if the wind is right. Blocks at the gooseneck are a must. we used sail lube this fall & were quite pleased with the difference it made as well.
