Does any one have a digram on how the lines are to be properly routed to lead all lines back to the cockpit. My catalina 22 does not have a pop top.

DON'T DO IT!

Chip, I single hand my 1985 Catalina 30 often and if there is one thing I wish were different, it would be to have the main halyard raised and lowered at the mast. The halyard always gets twisted or tangled going through the jam cleat lead and I have to leave the mast area as I'm pulling the sail down to help it through. I generally need to be on deck anyway to tighten the topping lift and tie the sail ties so it would be better to have the halyard within easy reach!

I have a Catalina 22 that I single hand all the time in most weather. The jib halyard is led to a block at the base of the mast and then through a cheek block (both on the port side) to a deck organizer and then through a pair of cam cleats. All on the port side. The main halyard is led through a cleat on the side of the mast. The hardware is there for the main halyard, but it is just as easy to loosen the mainsheet, set the tiller and climb up on deck. Good luck, Tim

Best improvement I have done.

I have a C22 poptop with a bimini. If I am on the foredeck it is not an easy task to get back into the cockpit. The jib controls are usually on the port and the main are on the starboard. I also added a 1/8" downhaul to the top of the jib to drag it down all from the comforts of the cockpit. I sail alone or with my wife and baby eitherway its one person doing all the work. My halyards have yet to give me troubles. I choose cheek blocks instead of organizers and cleats instead of clutches. An extra cheek block can be added any time for more controls. The clutches will come as the boat budget allows. Eric c22 5810 "Color Blind" eviegut@sailnet.com

Singlehanding and winning

I race on a regular basis with the Singlehanded Sailing Society and have taken home many wins... 11 lines are lead aft and all are in perfect control at all times.... Drop me a line and I'll send you pictures of the cabin top... By the way, my jib is sheeted to cabin top tracks so I guess you could say I have 13 lines lead aft.... Randy windward@softcom.net
