I would appreciate it if anyone could provide any recent information/experience concerning the Simrad Wheel Pilot 32. Any pros or cons I would need to consider before purchasing one? I want to install one on my 1978 HC33. Thanks

Have one

My PO installed one just before I bough the boat. I've used it several times since the end of last season (Hunter 356) and so far so good. Looks like teh install is pretty straight forward and just two weeks ago I interfaced my Garmin GPSs to it. I plotted a waypoint, told teh GPS to navigate, engaged the AP and cliucked nav and off we went, right to the point....pretty kewl (as you can tell it is my first AP). plan on testing it out more over the next couple of weeks. I haven't had it in any real blows so far, but I would suspect it might overwelm the little guy. Heard people talk about issues with the belts, but not so far for me (knock on wood). I see more of teh raymarine models on boats, but I also hear that those with the WP32 love the little monster. Hope this helps somewhat.

WP-32

I spent last season researching autopilots for my H-30. The plan was to buy one this spring to replace my failed Autohelm. I was all set to buy the WP-32 as it seems to be a great AP, but when I pulled out the checkbook this spring I discovered that the WP-32 has been discontinued. If you know of somewhere that you can still purchase one, I'd love to hear about it!

I found it at only one place

The only place I know of still have some of those is http://hollandmarine.com/. The website says they have only 6 left and when they are gone, they are gone. I talked to a few distributors in Seattle, East coast as well as in Chicago, none can be found except for the website above. But I decided not to buy because they asked for like $1099.00 US without the remote unit and I was able to fix the Autohelm 4000 on my boat. BTW I am looking for a remote unit for my Autohelm 4000. Anyone has one unused, please let me know.

wp-30

I have the earlier model the wp-30 and like it very much. I have had only one problem with it. it had trouble steering in 50 knot winds a couple of years ago but i think that my gain may be set incorrectly. later mike

on a h31

I installed a 32 on our H31 and it required minimum effort and I am very minimum at electronics! Have about 90 hours logged using it over an about 330 miles without an issues. Can make more noise than some of the nicer units but for the $$$ it was a great buy
