comments on Simrad Auto pilots...Simrad Wheelpilot 30 and Simrad WP5000 Wheelpilot. I am considering one of these for my Prout 35 Snowgoose Catamaran sailboat. Thanks

WP30.

Is what I installed on my H37C with a displ. over 18000#. I liked it's clean, simple, design and installation. It handles rough Lake Erie when the North winds blow, stays right on course. There's no fluxgate to install so you only run one wire down the pedestal. That one cable handles the 12V plus GPS/wind/etc. There's no separate display like the Raymarine and some sailors want that. It seems to use very little of the battery. I adjusted mine so that it doesn't "hunt". Three summers and nary a problem.

Same Here

I put the same on our Hunter 34 and will be my choice again. I had a Raytheon 4000 on a Hunter 27. We like the Navico, especially for the ease of installation. Navico was about $100 less. Seems to work comparable to Raytheon. I do not have the remote digital display, but don't really need it as long as I have a compass or GPS. I called Navico for tech support and a missing display cover. Sent it right out Fed-X no questions asked. Can't say for Raytheon. Might check the archives.

Integrated with GPS

Rodd... what mod. Garmin do you have?.. I also have the WP30 and a Garmin 162 GPS. Have not been able to get it to talk to my GPS or vice versa.... any suggestions/guidance would be appreciated. Ray

Garmin interface

I have the Garmin 48 and have interfaced with no problems. Need to make sure the interface is set to NMEA/NMEA not some other setting such as NONE/NMEA or GRMN/GRMN. Russ
