There is no question here but I thought I would pass along an idea for those who my have a Simrad autopilot. While sailing on a buddys boat I noticed his autopilot was smooth as silk. Mine, the same Simrad A/P 32 was always adjusting and making annoying noise, it also had a jittery motion to it. Anyway, upon closer inspection I notice he had taken a 2 inch piece of clear plastic hose, sliced it open {lenthwise} and fit it over the spoke the A/P grabs to on the wheel. It makes for a much tighter fit and has taken all the slop out of the wheel. Those of you with larger boats and larger diameter spokes on your wheel may not benifit but if you notice a jittery motion on your A/P take a look and give it a try. This simple fix makes for a smoother, quieter A/P. Good luck, Jack

Yes I adjusted the rubber grips to the max but still has a little slop. I will try adjusting the scale down a bit so it may dirft a bit but not overcorrect itself. I was amazed how much better it proformed with a simple adjustment. By the way, why did Simrad use those star shaped nuts/bolts instead of a good old fashioned phillips head? Its a PITA to find a tool that works. No need to reply. talk later, Jack

But my WP32 fails calibration. I sail without the calibration and it works well. There isn't that much metal, no more than most boats, for the calibration to fail. Dang if I am going to spend $400+ for an external flux gate compass. Thanks for the tips.

WP32 Calibration Issues
Brian - I have a WP30 that was also having calibration issues, after troubleshooting with Simrad, I took it off the boat in the off season and sent it in under warranty. It was a bad internal fluxgate compass. They had it turned around and back to me pretty quickly. If yours is still under warranty, might be worth pursuing. T J
