I have a Simpson-Lawrence Express Windlass on my Beneteau 461. It has a reversing motor, drives the chain both up and down. On disassembly I noticed the second compound gear will only turn in one direction. It seems to be mounted in a clutch bearing, allowing only one direction.
My question then is, how on earth does this work? All other gears, and the motor pinion, turn in both directions.
I see that Howard posted a similar question on May 7, 2009, but did not get a direct answer.
Does anyone know how this works? Or do I have a defective gear?
Jim
Thanks
