Simple propane install

After much reading and deliberation I finally came up with a propane install that meets my needs and adheres to ABYC recommendations. I run my stove to make coffee and basic meals so a 1lb greenie is plenty. I have a small vented locker I keep them in, I remove them when not in use.

I am considering adding a propane stove as well and I have been struggling with the idea of an external tank. Ugly. I like your solution. How long does the 1lb tank last?

A little sumbrella and a sewing machine can make a big difference. Found that reaching over the rail to turn the tank on/off was a real pain for the 5' 1" first mate so made a extension

Bill, Nice extension. Is the tank stored inside the cabin? Looks like it is sitting next to a waist basket in the salon.

The bracket and regulator are made by Dickenson Marine. Don't know how long a tank lasts, still on the first one.

Ned, just a guess, likely depends on how many cups of coffee you want to drink.

I bought a brass adapter to hook these bottles to my built in propane system for when the 1 gallon goes dry. I carry 3 bottles in propane stern locker. Chief

My O'Day 322 has a 2-burner propane stove with an oven. The PO used 1 lb bottles (left them all over the place. I bought 2 small (5 lb) steel tanks on amazon or eBay for $50. They fit into the ultra small propane locker ( won't fit a 20 lb tank). They are small, but 1 bottle has lasted a year (I don't use it all, that much, but have baked pizza in the oven, warm sandwiches in the oven, cook coffee and breakfast on the stove periodically.

The PO also plumbed a quick-disconnect near the rail, grill, so you can just "plug in" a hose to fuel the propane grill, and remove the whole thing when you don't want it in the way.

I am in fresh water, so don't worry about corrosion (although these little 5-pound tanks seems to be holding up,ok).

Quick update, Have made 8 pots of percolator coffee, 4 full breakfasts and reheated dinner twice on 1 1lb canister. This was this mornings breakfast for 10 in our favorite cove.

I have had propane, tank for which fitted in the on deck locker and I have had alcohol (Kenyon I think) but the best and simplest, safest is the Origo for my dough. 25 years and no parts other than alcohol fill. Hard to beat in my view.
