old(1979) H37C is as you describe, on front of pedestal behind the wheel. I think the H30 used the same Edson pedestal. The tolerances are close but had no trouble with installation and there is plenty of room for shifting. I think you would need about 1.25" between the wheel spokes and the shift lever.A tip. I used one of those 4" or 5" diameter, heavy(thick) rubber pipe connectors that you find at Loews/Home Depot plumbing. They are about 6" in length. I had to cut out a small section to get a tight wrap around the pedestal. This provided a better(scratch resistant) base and they come with better hose clamps than Simrad provides.
