Sikaflex Email
Here is the full text of my e-mail with Sikaflex, not much by way of customer service...In a message dated 11/9/2006 4:31:38 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, padgett.steve@sika-corp.com writes:Sorry Robert, I was on vacation when you responded and may have accidentally deleted your e-mail when I was cleaning up several hundred received while I was out.Sikaflex 291 is normally fairly easy to extrude. However, with a DIY level caulk gun, it is less easy. Without other info, all I can do is guess about why it was hard to gun. As with all polyurethane sealants, Sikaflex has a shelf life. Beyond that shelf life, or if stored in extremely hot conditions the product will begin to cure in the tube becoming hard, then impossible to gun.I hope that is a better explanation.Regards,Stephen R. I will post all of the e-mail text on Hunterowners, com as well as Sailboatowners.com, and go back to using 5200, its easier and less costly. In a message dated 10/26/2006 12:18:12 A.M. But for the record I can squash basketballs with my right hand, when I say this wasn't coming out of the tube, I could hold the gun upside down, and step on the handle to no avail, and it was dated within the three months prior to my use. I did also use a long nail to perforate the interior seal, through the tube opening. In a message dated 10/26/2006 11:22:12 A.M. I have tried to use it on three occasions on my boat to replace ports or hatches. On each occasion, trying to get it out of the tube, was like pushing a golf ball through a garden hose. I always check the expiration date on the product when I buy sealants or adhesives, and this was current. In each case I wound up throwing an almost full tube, and soaking my hand in hot water. It doesntmatter what kind of calking gun I use, its like concrete in a tube. I have used 3M #5200 for a number of applications and it is easy to use and work with. What gives?------------------------------------------------------------------- Request date: 19.Oct.2006 - 00:55-------------------------------------------------------------------
