Hello.. I have a Catalina 27 and the original big round Signet depth and knot meters have long since died on me. I'd rather not get the same big <ugly!> Signet instruments, but I also don't want to pull the boat out and re-install new transducers for a different brand depth / speed meter. The speed transducer is a plug type that you can take out and throw a blank plug into (see pic below). Does anyone know if Navman, Raymarine, Garmin, Airmar, or any other mainstream instrument manufacturer makes a transducer that I can plug into the existing fixture? Depth is the only really important one, but a depth / speed / temp sensor would be a dream come true. Many thanks, Cris Hazzard Morning Sky Jersey City, NJ

Raymarine

I e-mailed Raymarine on my depth transducer,it' a Garmin supplied unit,. They say as long as it is 200khz it should work with there ST60 + units. I have been all over the net trying to find if you can tst a transducer. No luck yet. Dennis

Sigent Instruments

We just replaced the entire instruments; depth, knotmeter, wind speed, and wind direction. We replaced the round Signet with wound Signet. When we started our instrument shopping, we never thought we would end woth Signet and replacement cost was not really a factor. We looked at B&G, Comnav NX2, Raymarine ST60 & ST60+, and Navman. We wittled the list down to accuracy, function, and quality. We strongly considered Comnav NX2, but it had function which we never thought we would use, but since Signet met all of our needs, we returned to the big round instruments. The big round instrument face is classic. Signet Instruments are known for being very accurate. Although the existing Signet transducers plugged into the new instruments without a problem, they are not interchangeable. Chris at Signet was very helpful and easy to work with; (310) 320-4349.

Will an SL-40 help?

If a SL-40 depth sounder would help drop me a line. You can send me an email from the www.SailboatsOwners.com "Owner Directory", fourth tab to the right on the menu bar.

Thanks

Thanks for your input...I'm going to try hooking my Signet transducer up to a new Raymarine. I heard that you could use any 200hz transducer, but I wasn't sure if it was true. Dave - the old readouts died (LCD went)... Thanks everyone!

I have a used transducer

I have an old Signet speed and depth transducer that looks just like the one in your photo. Look me up in the owner's directory or post a "Want to buy" ad in the "Gear Here" forum.
