I have a Signet Marine Depth Sounder, MK172, on my 1989 Hunter30. It is starting to act up and I have contacted Signet Marine about repair. Has anyone dealt with Signet Marine for repair? -Doug s/v BRENDA GAIL

An honest reply

Yes, I have dealt with them. I would recommend purchasing a new depth sounder.

I sent my Signet depth display in to their sevice dept a few years ago. Signet said the display was ok and sold me a new transducer with cable. After I determined I could not get the old transducer out of the haul, their tech suggested installing the new inside on the haul. I had been told inside installation would not work, but my wife came up with the idea of testing the transducer while in a bag of water, on different spots on the haul. We found a spot that gave us an accurate reading and mounted the trancducer in PVC that we used 5200 to seal. It has been working fine for three/four years.

I've had trouble

I've had nearly instant response from Signet via email and phone when they repaired my unit(s) -- wind and depth. However, both ended up not working again and I currently have wind unit back at the plant. I am planning on getting a hummingbird, or similar to replace the depth instrument and will probably flush-mount the transducer.
