Wow. What a glorious weekend. First, a huge thanks to Robbie, Tori, Rick, Chapin, Allan, and mother Robinson for the effort they made for us at Poulsbo. The presentations, demonstrations, food and fellowship were absolutely terrific. Thanks also for the summer survival kits distributed to each boat. As Tori mentioned there were 46 boats at the rendezvous. Sixteen were Hunters and nine were current HAPS members and a tenth boat was a former member, Harry and Janet of "Matanui that we hope to coax back into the fleet. Three other Hunters expressed an interest and we would love to have them join our happy fleet as well; John and Kerstin of "New Shoes", Tim and Noreen of "Adventure Us" and Larry of "Kia Oro".

HAPS attendees included

Dave and Susie of "Footloose"
Mike and Nancy of "Dolce II"
Bill and Jeannine of "J Michelle"
Kim and Brian of "Off Course" glad your shoulder is recovered enough to get you on the water again!
Steve and Barb of "Starbright"
Larry and Sue of "Beverly Jane"
Dave and Mary of "Dulcinea"
Greg and Maggie of "Ceilioh" pronounced just like it is spelled, huh? Kay-lee, is that right?
Mike and Ruth of "Wings of Gold"

The ladies dock talk and demo held Saturday morning was a huge hit. At our dinner table Friday night the talk was the upcoming ladies docking demo on the new Beneteau 45. Kim of Brian and Kim of "Off Course" related her experiences of a Sunday afternoon to Saturday time on a sailboat out of Bellingham devoted exclusively to teaching women only sailboat operations. Linda, of Linda and Stuart of "Selah" is out this week on the same course. Apparently neither Kim nor Linda knew any other women on their respective boats. Perhaps, if more of our ladies are interested in this course boat buddies could be arranged. It is always more fun to do something like this with a buddy. This type of instruction adds considerably to the safety and confidence of our crews. Congratulations to both of you for having the courage to take this step!!!

Take a look at the Signature-Yachts facebook page and you will see a picture our beautiful boat babes aboard the demo (and undamaged) Benetau after successfully completing the first annual Signature-Yachts ladies underway boat docking course.

Picture credits go to Jeannine of Bill and Jeannine of "J Michelle". Thanks Jeannine.

The men's dock talk and anchoring discussion was well received with all attendees getting a tremendous dose of Vitamin D while listening to Robbie. Robbie's chart chat later that afternoon covered the big picture of how and why the water from the northern tip of Vancouver Island to the port of Olympia moves the way it does. Robbie gave the talk in the hopes of encouraging us to use our boats more to explore a truly magnificent area of the world.

At Kingston, thought was given to a prolonged HAPS cruise next year into the San Juan Islands. More informal discussion was held Sunday morning at Poulsbo. Among our group are those that have cruised the islands extensively and those that want to cruise extensively. It was agreed that a cruise like that takes detailed and advance planning. So here is a thought. The October rendezvous, planned for Tacoma, is in jeopardy due to the newly completed bridge having a vertical clearance of 60'. Unless any Hunter over 36' transits the bridge at low tide, complicating arrival and departure times, this is rather difficult. We could search for an alternative rendezvous site or have a land based planning session for next year's cruise. A land base planning session would be open to all members whether they think they could cruise or not as the knowledge gained would still be beneficial. If this were held at a member's house, preferably on the Seattle side of the sound where I think more members are located, that might be a more comfortable venue and conducive to a good initial planning session. HAPS could order pizza or other fine cuisine to reduce the strain on the host. Anyway, email traffic is welcome and we can also discuss further at our next formal rendezvous which is July 26-28 at Port Ludlow sponsored by Marlow Hunter and Marine Service Center.

For those planning to attend the informal rendezvous in Poulsbo for the July 3rd fireworks contact Stuart and Linda on Selah. SVselah@me.com. or Stuartscadronwattles@me.com.

Please review the notice and form below. I look forward to the talk by Bob Dickey as I am chasing vacuum leaks in both of my vacu flush heads. The race last year was fun and I hope to improve my performance now armed with a folding prop and an assymetrical sail. Follow the four steps listed at the bottom of the event notice. For those returning from some July cruising this would be a great finishing point or for those headed north a great starting point.

Ruth also sent out a note concerning the HAPS rendezvous at the Bremerton Marina, August 16-18.

Thanks again to Signature and the crew for a great weekend. See you all at Port Ludlow.
