Sigh...this time of year is tough.

Started out this year with a rookie gaff that wiped my water pump impeller in July then reinjured my tennis elbow removing stuck water pump screws wiping out most of August and September. Throw in three weeks of dead outboard, finally fixed when I just bought a new carb and now I am a week away from finally ending the season. The icing on the **** cake that is my 2014 season is sustained 35 mph winds with 50 mph gusts today and tomorrow. Thank God I had both my mooring pendants replaced this season as they were due. If I don't have a good spring I will probably just put my boat on the market and take up knitting.

New mooring pendants were crossed over each other multiple time by my mooring guy when he installed them. I should have undone them the one time I was aboard but I only noticed it after I was off the boat. The heat from the two day nor'easter put enough heat into them from chaffing that the brand new pendants are melted 20% through!

S2 8.5 Milwaukee
OUCH!! This was my first season with My 1981 S2 8.5. I took her out sailing almost every weekend. Also, the 100 mile trip up motoring up Lake Michigan from south of Chicago to Milwaukee. ( happened to be NO WIND the entire trip) I was very impressed that I was able to Motor at 6 knots for 100 miles only used 8 gal of fuel. I loved the way she sailed in both light air and in heavy air. It was easy to balance the sails and create very neutral helm. I loved the interior too, such a roomy feel. I made good use of the alcohol stove and alder bour refrigeration. I took advantage to the roomy quarter berth and spent many nights on the boat. My S2 was a big improvement over my old 1968 Coronado 25!! (which I am still looking to get rid of)
Ironically I am really looking forward to this season being over. I have a long list of winter projects i excited to get started . My plan is to re core the cabin roof form the bottom, add a hand hold in the center of the roof, Reinforce or rebuild the chain plate bulkheads as needed, re bed all deck hardware, cut a hatch in the floor and rebuild the mast step support, replace the main halyard, replace mast head wind vane sending unit, and finally repaint the mast. Ya it sounds ambitious, Im not sure how much I will actually get done. I plan to post as I go and hope for some good advice. Anyway, time to go winterize my engine.
