Shrouds seems a bit loose ?

We were sailing our 30' Catalina a few days ago in 15-20 knot winds, when I noticed the leeward shroud seemed to be very loose, with no force on it whatsoever. Of course the windward shroud was very tight since it was holding most of the force put on by the sails. Is it usual for the shroud to be so loose, so loose that i could move it 2'' either way without puting any force on it? When we took down the sails and headed back to port, both shrouds seemed tight as usual. If this is not normal, what should I do to fix it ? Thanks, Michael

Shroud Tension

Leeward shrouds should not be loose when going to weather. This means your mast is sagging in the middle and making the sail fuller, which you don't want in 15 to 20 knots of wind. I would suggest purchasing a Loos tention guage and checking the information in the archives. I had the same problem and all the answers to my questions were in the archives. Sean
