I have a 1974 Oday 27 and no manuals. I can't find a specification for shroud tension on the internet. I have access to tension guages for testing them and they are pretty close together by wire size 5/32 and 3/16. I have had the boat for 4 years and never adjusted them. I would like to know if they are set correctly. Any help would be appreciated.

Tension

Rodney, I also have a 27 (1979) and the Tension of the shroud was, to say the least the cause of much tension with the guys I sail with, I did not use a guage, I set mine by feel, is that correct? who can say. My suggestion to you would be to read "the Riggers apprentice" by Brion Toss, I'm sure most if not all of your questions would be answered. also, Brion has a web site with a discussion group, check it out (http://www.briontoss.com) Good luck richj

Thanks richj

Thanks for the advice, I will look for the book at Barnes and Nobel. I know that there are three more Oday 27s in Anacortes Wa, maybe a note left on a companionway hatch could net a look at a manual? They must have made many of these boats, it is hard to believe that no paperwork has survived.

Brian Toss Video

I found the video that Brian Toss puts out great on rig tension process and tension amounts. You can get it over his web site. I refer to it just as a reminder when I want to check rig tune. Good Winds Dave

Thanks Dave

Thanks Dave. I will look to Brian Toss for direction. Speaking to a local sail maker it seems that insuring the mast is centered is the most important part of this exercise. Like most things I do I will study the subject in depth. Rod
