Please help. I have two students that are wetting their Catalina 22 tomorrow and they asked me to help adjust their stays and shrouds. I have a Loos tool. Can anyone tell me the proper tensions? If not, please explain how you adjust yours. Thanks, Jim

The Catalina manual that comes with the boat

gives very good instructions for adjusting stays and shrouds, even without a gage. Try the C22 Association website: www.catalina22.org There may be some on their discussion baord, if they have one. If not, look at the manual. If that doesn't work, read a Catalina rigging manual from any Catalina that has single spreader rig, like our Catalina 34: it's all done by balancing the rig first at the dock, then dynamically when sailing. http://www.c34.org/manuals/1988/1988-C34-Owners.pdf

Adjustment

Good Day Capt. Jim I have a noe from April 19 of the CatalinaOwners.com. The starting point for the loos Guage is 28 on the upper shrouds and 24 on the lower shrouds. The forestay is not quite straight forward. The notes I have suggest measureing the sag of the forestay. measuring down from the top of the mast with another line pulled tight the "sag" for light airs is 6 in for light airs is 3 in. to 4 in. and heavy airs tight. The Catalina Owners.com may have this and more information in the Archives, dates 02/03 and 04/19. I hope that this will help you get started. AL
