Shrink wrapping damage?

I have had my boat repainted withing the past two years while restoring the boat. This spring I removed the shrink wrap and found the paint had bubbled up in several areas of the newly painted area. When confronting the Marina who painted the boat they blamed it on the shrink wrap. I have had boats in the past shrink wrapped for years while deployed in the Navy and never had this problem. Has anyone else seen this problem and is it attributed to the shrink wrap or is it just improper preparation prior to painting? Thanks in advance. Rick

Shrink Wrap

Any professional who does shrink wrap knows that it is not recommended for painted vessels. That being said I shrink wrap my painted vessel every winter with no problems but I mostly cover the top of the vessel and minimize the coverage of the painted hull (six inches max) I am very sensitive to how much heat I put on the hull area. Ventilation is critical. I saw a mid eighties Catalina 36 that was wrapped to the water line with minimial ventilation. The white gel coat was full of blisters when the wrap was removed. I doubt it was a paint problem especially if the only problem is under the plastic wrap

"Paint" or LPU?

Sears Weatherbeater or a proper LPU job? The LPU manufacturers state up front that LPU redo boats should not be wrapped unless there is space between the wrap and the LPU. Try the link and read #8 in the DON'T section.
