This is our first season in the O'Day 23. Since we have gone up 4 ft from our last O'Day, I'm wondering if it is worth the expense of shrink wrapping every winter, or using a good old tarp, as we had always done with the smaller boat. But, we didn't have railings to bother with either. Just wondering if anyone thought there was a big difference besides price.Thanks.

I do

I tried to build an adequate frame for my Oday 23 so I could use a cheap tarp and avoid the yearly shrink wrap costs. I used pvc pipe and scrap wood. Parts of the frame broke within a week and I spent a good deal of time over the winter fixing the frame. I went back to shrink wrapping the next winter. Bottom line: if you don't have the time or skill to build a good frame, don't bother. Suck it up and shrink wrap the boat.

Cover it

I built a very good frame with 1/2 and some 3/4 pvc and covered with a tarp for my O'Day 23. I'm now on my third winter in northern NY with the same tarp and no problems. for more info, contact me at rovan99@nycap.rr.com
