Shower Sump Pump Circuit

In my 2012 Hunter 33e, I have a shower that drains into a sump box and is pumped over the side above the water line. The drain from the vanity sink is also plumbed to this box. The sump pump has a separate float switch which is wired (12V) from a reset breaker (Sump) on the main DC panel through an on/off rocker switch located in the head vanity. If the vanity switch is turned off then the sump pump never turns on, which makes little sense to me.

My thinking is that the switch should be wired directly to the sump pump, by-passing the float switch. This would allow the pump to be turned on manually, if so desired.

This subject has been touched on in previous posts; but, I was unable to determine from those discussions whether the vanity switch was in series or parallel with the float switch.

Are you sure the vanity switch controls the float switch off and on.
I would think it should work like bilge pump and always be ready to work always on and the vanity switch manually turns the pump on just like the bilge that is always auto and has a toggle switch to manually turn on the pump.
If not check the vanity switch.
The way my shower works is the shower pan loads up with water and I need to turn on the vanity switch to pump water over board and Hunter did not use a
sump pump with my model 07 H-36.

Re: Sump

I guess I was wondering if I was missing something, Nick. I noticed water in the bilge one day and traced the source back to the sump box. It was full and water had leak out the top. When I changed the vanity switch to the other position, the sump pump came on and the box emptied like it should. I then wondered what the purpose of the switch really was. It makes no sense, to me, the way it is currently wired. But this is the way it came from the factory.

Try to E-mailing Hunter and ask what the heck.
Good Luck
Wondering if any other 33e owners can jump in here, also try emailing a 33e owner in the owners list here and I did that myself a few times.

The shower drain is wired to the vanity switch so you can turn on and off while taking a shower, rather than continuous running. I don't run the water continuously, so can turn off the pump when the water drains.
I guess they changed the vanity drain in the 33e. Mine drains to a through-hull and is separate from the shower drain. I don't have a sump or float swith, just a regular pump.

Sounds like an issue to talk to dealer about the leak.

I received an immediate reply from Hunter to the email I sent. Initial response was an agreement that the vanity switch should bypass the float switch and turn the sump pump on. However, my email has been forwarded on to the engineering folk for their take on it.

Thanks for the suggestion.
