Does anyone have pictures of their shower curtain rail? I have the rail but I haven't installed it yet. I am trying to figure out the best way to install it. I hate to install it and it not work adequately. I would really hate to have to pull it out and repair the screw holes. If you have the rail for the shower curtain and it doest work well tell me about it and your suggestions. If you have it and it works good also tell me about it. Paul

No shower rail

I'm wondering if this shower curtain is an after-market install, as I've never had one on my 83 Hunter 31.

yes it is after market

I was afraid if i took a shower in the head if water would go everywhere. I think the water would get into the storage cabnets(behind the head and under the sink) Rubicon You take showers on your 31H? Is there water intrusion in areas you rather it not get into? Do you just let the water drain into bilge? I thought I would put a pump under the greats and put a hose out the side of the boat.(at about the same level as the bilge pump) Paul

I did...

on my former H31. I bought a 15 or 12 foot track, or something, from camping world. One of the inverted T types with carriers on it. I made a big "U" with the track, that included both the head and the standing room between the head door and the hanging locker. (If looking at a floor plan from the stern, a big "U", turned 90 degrees to the right, so that the opening was to the starboard.) So, to take a shower, one had to close the door towards for v-berth. This made a big shower area and kept me from having to stand on the head to take a shower..;) I used a curtain/rod setup to creat a door, or sorts between the salon and the shower/head area that I had created. As for the drain, some went into the bilge, but I found a bilge pump that would fit under the grate. I do not know what make/model it was, only that is was an old one my father had sitting around. Several others here have looked unsuccessfully for one to fit. Unless you creat a sump/pump arrangement, I think the bilge is the only option. I know how you feel about the install, I spent weeks looking, planning and thinking before putting it up. I was afraid of the wrong install and all those little holes. Just do it.

Whale Supersub 360/500

Whale Pumps makes the perfect pump for going under the grates in the head. I found this by accident and it will work great! It is less than 2 1/2 inches high. You can get one that pumps 360 or 500 gal. per hour. 3/4" hose. it has a built in strainer.

No water intrusion

I regularly use the head shower on-board and haven't ever had any water intrusion into the storage areas. Don't know why, just never have.

All this talk...

has rekindled our thoughts about resurrecting our shower facility. When I bought this boat, it was "shower ready" but we never used it and I eventually replaced the head fixtures excluding the shower attachment. The shower curtain was gone but there was evidence that the track had been there. Now, my wife thinks she may want it back. Two questions: 1) The pump. Is it really necessary or will the shower water drain on its own into the primary bildge? If not, and you install a pump under the grate, to where do you pump? Where do you pick up the electrical source? 2) Rubicon, if you do not use a curtain, does the water not collect in the slider tracks? Does the water not collect in the open storage area just behind the stool? Do you not have to clear all items being stored on the shelf above the slider cabinet?

hey Doug

Yes the shower does drain into the primary bilge, but very slowly. the drain hose is only a 3/8" line. I rather mine not drain in there for several reasons. 1 Shower water is full of bacteria and skin folics, and hair. What the bilge pump doesn't remove will sit and stink. 2 Resale! When someone buys my boat, someday I will sell it. Most new boats have a seperate shower sump. 3 Hunter put a sump in the boat seems I should use it! Sounds like all this talk has created for work for you. Sorry Paul

Paul, I kind of assumed...

that the pump would be the smart way to go and for the reasons you gave. My other questions, however, still remain. Where do you pump the shower water and where do you pick up the electricity for the pump?

Doug, You're not going to like this

you going to have to get the drill out and a hole saw approx. 1 1/8". The only place to pump the shower to is overboard. Power for the pump is easy. it is just a choice of which circuit you want to pull it off of. I am guessing most people would get it from the cabin lights since it is the easiest. I will run it back off my circuit breaker panel. Don't take it from pressure water switch! If it is running giving your water for the shower, you don't want to run the pump from it it would pop the breaker. I think I will take it from my refrigerator breaker. It is the one least used. If you have any more questions just drop me a line. Paul
