Shower handle removal

I finally determined that the water slowly accumulating in my bilge was from leaky joints hidden under the forward shower control. I am having trouble getting the top off in order to access the valves. I removed the set screw and the lever shown in the photo and I expected the top to lift off. I have spayed vinegar and been quite aggressive with it but it hasn’t budged. I wanted to know if there is a trick to removing this before I break it.

I can unscrew the top flange until it hits the piece above it. It’s the top part that turns to select hot and cold water that is stuck. I even tried to use the flange to force the selector off but it didn’t budge.

Ok, now I understand better
Did you try unscrewing the top part after you removed the screw?

Take a picture of the fitting. DONE

Go to a good AI and ask the AI to find the manufacturer of the faucet.

Go to the manufacturer's website and see the blow-up diagram and installation details. Follow the directions.

Good luck.

So many people are "talking about" AI, but here's a perfect way to use it. I'll bet photo recognition via phones was here even before AI.

Just to follow up, the faucet is a Delta Trinsic model. The top is supposed to lift off after removal of the set screw but it took me two days of applying vinegar and WD 40 with aggressive prying to get it free. The two leaks in the underly connections are now fixed and I’m hoping for a dry bilge tomorrow.

and WD 40
Thx for the update.

You should know that WD40 is useless for what you were trying to do. PBBlaster or Kroil are the appropriate materials. WD stands for water displacement; it doeds nothing to free up stuck parts.

WD 40 is also not a great lube, but people still use it for one all the time. I guess it does have its uses, but I prefer specialized, for purpose, chems.

Also, congrats OP. Glad you got it.
