Before I start tearing things apart I need information about the location of the original shower drain pump. My boat is a 1982 33 Chirubinni Hunter.

Not that familiar with your boat, but our aft shower drains into a sump, which has a sump pump for overboard discharge above the waterline. Yours may drain overboard without the need of a pump. Can you follow the drain hose? What happens when you pour water down the shower drain? It may drain out through a seacock below the waterline.
Not possible. The shower sump will be BELOW the boat's waterline. It connected to a seacock also below the waterline would flow backwards and sink the boat.
Only high-mounted sinks can have direct-drain seacocks below the waterline.
You may or may not have a shower sump. On the HC 37 it is in the bilge and is a complete unit with container, strainer, float switch and pump. If you have one you should be able to find it, it has to be where you can get hair and soap scum out of it - how do I know that?
If you don't have one, that hair and soap scum is headed for you bilge pump.

Just to repeat what I said before, sort of. I do not know the H33. Ours, a P42, has an aft shower/sit tub that drains into a sump above the water line. This sump has a pump that sends the water overboard through a through hull above the waterline. Whether the H33 is set up that way, the owner needs to find that out by tracing the shower drain hose to where it discharges overboard, either above or below the waterline. If it is below the waterline it should have a seacock.
