Should I rebuild?

I have the original waterpump at home, a ShurFlo 225-3000X. It is vintage 1979 and has never failed until this fall. On our last overnight the tanks went dry. No problem, they are that way every spring. But I could not get the pump to build pressure, not even with all my old priming tricks. I have taken the pump apart and see very little to rebuild. It is one of those with three plastic diaphragms(I guess) the size of quarters. There is an eccentric on the bearing that lifts them in succession like valve lifters on a 4-cycle engine. I cannot see anything wrong or anything to fix. I have yet to test it at home but will tomorrow. Are there kits for these old pumps? I could not find one with Google. It always worked well and was not that noisy.

Yes, there are kits...

You prob'ly just need a diaphragm kit and a pressure valve kit. You can order 'em through WM or any place that carries ShurFlo pumps. Kits are not "one size fits all"...You'll need the model and year info off the pump to get the right ones...in fact, you may want to call ShurFlo first to make sure you do get the right ones...you may even be able to order 'em direct from them. If it needs any more than a diaphragm kit and pressure valve kit, it'll start to cost you almost as much as a new pump. So you might want to do what I did when my 20 yr old SurFlow needed a rebuild: buy a new one AND rebuild the old one to keep as a spare. If you buy a new one too, you prob'ly won't be able to get the exact same GPM model as the old one...mine was a 3.0 gpm, discontinued....only choices were 2.8 or 3.2. When I asked Shurflo which to go with, they recommended 2.8 'cuz after 20+ years, my 3.0 prob'ly wasn't putting out more than 2.8 gpm any more anyway. I took their advice and had at least as much water pressure from the new pump as I had from the old one.

No luck.

According to Depco the pump is replaced with 2088-433-344. I could not find a kit for 225-3000X. And that pump has "11. gpm" on the label whereas the 2088 pump is rated 3.6 gpm. I also tested with the car battery and the inlet hose in a bucket of water, both unprimed and primed. Just a trickle at the outlet. I also tried 12 volts on both black and red. The motor sounded more normal with black as the hot lead(I mention that because I recently installed a Thin-Lite light where black is hot and white is ground). I have the original literature but it does not mention wiring. I'll check the wiring on the boat on Tuesday. I know that it was wired red to red on the boat. Guess it is time for a new pump.
