Should I Install a Exhaust Water Muffler?

My 1986 Catalina 27 Tall Rig with a Universal 18 Diesel came from the factory without a water muffler. As a result, the engine exhause is extremely loud. Has anyone out there installed a water muffler on a C-27, and if so, was there any noticable reduction in power? What muffler is recommended? Thanks...Jim

Jim, I can't imagine this engine not having waterlift muffler. Where does the cooling water go? On the M-18 in my Newport 28, the raw water from the heat exchanger is injected into the exhaust pipe between the exhaust manifold and the waterlift muffler. Should be an easy install. I think West Marine carries the waterlift mufflers. Make sure you use the correct exhaust hose & double clamp everything. I'd try to find another C27 with that engine & look at the installation. Maybe someone will offer to send you pics. Good Luck
